West Virginia University offers 802.11a/b/g WiFi network access at hot spots around the campus. The official West Virginia University wireless networks are "WVU.Encrypted", "WVU.MountainAir" and "WVU.ResNet".
Why are there three wireless networks at WVU?
The WVU.Encrypted network is a WPA-secured network which encrypts data traveling across the wireless network, preventing other network users from viewing the data you transmit. This is the preferred network for WVU faculty, staff and students. To connect, please follow these instructions.
The WVU.MountainAir network uses a hotel-style logon intended for guests and devices that cannot connect to the WVU.Encrypted network. It does not encrypt data traveling across the network, but instead relies on the application to encrypt the data when appropriate. To connect, please follow these instructions.
The WVU.ResNet network is only available in residence halls. It is an extension of ResNet, and therefore subject to terms of use that may not apply to WVU.Encrypted or WVU.MountainAir. For additional information regarding the WVU.ResNet network, please refer to Wireless ResNet.
Recommendation: review best practices for configuring wireless network connections.
I can see other wireless networks besides the official University networks, may I use them?
These networks are not supported by West Virginia University and may be unsafe. If you choose to use them, you do so at your own risk.
