Wireless ResNet

Going Wireless - Windows Vista

Step 1

Open the Start Menu, then select Control Panel.

Click "View network status and tasks" under theNetwork and Internet section.

In the Network and Sharing Center, Windows will indicate if wireless networks are available. Click "Connect to a network".

Windows will display a list of available wireless networks. Select "WVU.ResNet", and click Connect. Please note, you may see other wireless networks as shown here. These networks are not supported by West Virginia University and may be unsafe.

Step 5

Windows will display a warning indicating that you are attempting to connect to an unsecured network. Click Connect Anyway. WVU.ResNet is similar to public wireless networks in hotels, airports and coffee shops. It does not encrypt (or secure) your wireless network traffic. Instead, it relies on your application (e.g. web browser) to encrypt sensitive information.

Windows will then attempt to connect to WVU.ResNet as shown here.

Step 7

After connecting to WVU.ResNet, Windows will prompt you to save this network. Be sure to select "Save this network". We recommend that you do not select "Start this connection automatically". This allows you to retain control over when you connect to the wireless network.

Proceed to Step 8.
