Step 1
In Internet Explorer 7, select Tools, and then Internet Options from the menu bar.

Step 2
Select the Security tab, select the "Internet" zone, and click the Default Level button to use Microsoft’s recommended security settings. Click Apply to save your changes.
If the Default Level button is unavailable ("greyed out"), then you already have the default level of settings.

Step 3
Select the Privacy tab, and use the slider to set your privacy settings to "Medium" or higher. Click Apply to save your changes.

Step 4
On the Privacy tab, ensure that "Turn on Pop-up Blocker" is checked. Click the Settings button, and set the "Filter Level" to "High: Block all pop-ups (Ctrl to override)". Click Close to save your pop-up blocker settings, and then click OK to close the Internet Options dialog window.

Step 5
Internet Explorer 7 users should also enable the Phishing Filter. Phishing websites are fake versions of real websites, such as PayPal or a bank, created by people intent on stealing your identity, credit card number, bank account number, etc. The Phishing Filter helps protect you from these malicious websites by checking the website and alerting you if it detects anything suspicous.
To enable the Phishing Filter, select Tools > Phishing Filter > Turn on Automatic Website Checking... from the menu bar.

Step 6
In the Microsoft Phishing Filter window, select "Turn on automatic Phishing Filter (recommended)", and click OK to save your changes.

You can read more about the Phishing Filter on Microsoft's web site.
